The Frontera Project

Frontera Bauman_edited.jpg

The Frontera Project is an interactive, bilingual theater experience created and performed by a company of Mexican and US artists. We use theater, music, movement and play to actively engage the audience in a compassionate, often joyous conversation about life at the US/Mexico Border.

The Frontera Project began when I got a TCG travel grant to spend some time with the amazing artists at Tijuana Hace Teatro in Tijuana, Mexico. Spending time in Tijuana made me realize how little I – or most people who do not live there – understand about the Border and the lives of the people who live there. I came away inspired to share what I had seen, to be an ambassador for Border stories to people like me, who may not know what they don’t know.

THT Artistic Director Ramón Verdugo and I have collaborated for years with a company of actors to create The Frontera Project. Since the fall of 2021, we have been performing in theaters and at universities across the US.

The Frontera Project has performed at Touchstone Theatre (PA), Luna Stage (NJ), Folger Shakespeare Theater (DC), La Jolla Playhouse (CA), Old Globe Theater (CA), Virginia Tech, UNCSA, UC Irvine, Swarthmore College and Teatro Las Tablas (Tijuana).
