Written & Directed by Jessica Bauman
Taking place during the racial reckoning in the spring of 2020, Maud is the story of a woman of privilege and vulnerability – a timid widow living by herself on Capitol Hill – who is told that the energy and upheaval happening just outside her door has nothing to do with her. She is used to acquiescing, but somewhere deep inside, she knows that the voices telling her to stay indoors and behave are wrong. She surprises herself by taking action, joining the world moving towards equity and justice. That world is there for her too.
I started writing the screenplay for Maud during the pandemic. I gathered a team to shoot the film – my first real short - in the summer of 2022. In just two days, we shot interiors in a house on Capitol Hill, and shut down a street to stage a Juneteenth demonstration complete with Gogo band The Experience on a flatbed truck, playing a song they wrote for the film.
Maud has been accepted in several film festivals, including the Studio City Film Festival and the Oakland Film Festival. For more information, please go to film’s website: www.maudfilm.com.
